Abstract

Migration from India to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) constitutes one of the largest and biggest labour movements in the contemporary world. The migration of Indian workers to the the United Arab Emirates (UAE), represents one of the largest and most important migration corridors in the world. Over the past five decades, millions of Indian workers have migrated to the UAE in search of better economic opportunities, contributing significantly to both the countries. Indian diaspora particularly semi-skilled and unskilled labourers, play a crucial role in the UAE’s economy, especially in construction, domestic work, and service sectors. While migration provides economic opportunities through remittances and employment, it also raises serious concerns regarding labour rights, citizenship exclusion, and welfare protections. This paper critically examines the issues, opportunities, citizenship constraints, and labour reforms affecting Indian diaspora in the UAE.
